Best beatdown of 2024, low bar but still.

Out of all music, Hardcore speaks to me the most. I started listening to heavy music with power metal in late 2019, which turned into Thrash metal, and subsequently death metal by the summer of 2020. I got into slam for the first time in spring of 2021, but fell in love with black metal by the summer of the same year. My unyielding love of black metal remained for nearly 2 years, and still lingers above me to this day. I have written many black metal songs (at least one for every failed talking stage X'D) and still enjoy artists like Kekht Arakh, Sadness, and Woods of Desolation. As of recent (early 2024) I have been returning to my slam roots. I love artists like Peelingflesh and Infectious Jelqing.

When it comes to punk, I really began in the summer of 2021, when I got fed up with all my favorite black metal artists being Nazis. I was into very beginner bands for a while, though I had a special affinity for third wave ska and Rancid. I had dipped my toes into crust punk by that winter, when I fell head over heels for Days n Daze. My mental health at that point was at (hopefully) an all time low, and Days n Daze was the only thing that made me feel better some days. By the summer of 2022 I had sorta dropped the metal label and claimed full crust-punk-dom. I attended the 2022 Unrest Fest in Minneapolis, as well as some other crust shows before and after this. This was the status quo but in the spring prior (spring 2022) I first heard this one band called Sunami, who made what I thought was the best music of all time. I fell in love with them, as well as Gods Hate, and Outta Pocket, but couldnt manage to find similar music. This changed in March of 2023, when I had a random resurgance in the genre of Hardcore. The first new band I added to my "slam punk" playlist (yes that is how I classified Sunami and Gods Hate XD) was Mushmouth and Hatebreed, who are still in (probably) my top 10 hardcore bands. That enjoyment continued to this day. I developed a taste for hardcore right after my friend Dominic, and he helped me find what is now my favorite straight edge band (xWeaponx).

In june I would hit up Dominic asking if he wanted to jam and he invited me to the first practice of what would later become xSuckerpunchx. I took part in about 3 or 4 practices with the band, where we played very poorly written songs (by me of course) and ate gas station hot dogs. Those practices are some of my most fond memories of the summer, and I was so sad to have to leave the band when I was being shipped off to Germany for an exchange year, but I now know it was for the best. Recently they played their 2nd official show and it went fantastic. Words cannot describe how happy and proud I am, both to have been a part of that band (even if for a short time), and just for my friends who I want to succeed and do well. I am currently working on both a slam/deathcore project and beatdown project, both of which aren't even close to being ready. I intend to form/join a band immediately after returning to the US, and hopefully play a show before I go to college (be it within or without the TC area). If anyone is reading this, is in the TC area, and wants to jam in late June/July of 2024, hit me up at "literallyshogun" on discord.
